They are to be used for testing purposes only and are not for distribution.


dem_1997	Draft Identifier "SDTS RASTER PROFILE"
			Available from USGS EDC GeoData site 1998-6/2001
			Some may be positionally inaccurate
dem_dec_2000	Contains USGS typo "SRPE: RASTER PROFILE and EXTENSIONS"
			Available from GIS Data Depot 7/2001-9/2001
			Corrects positionally inaccurate data
			Incorporates decimal unit elevation value DEMs
			Accommodates TIFF and BIIF Extensions
			Contains profile identifier error
dem_oct_2001	FGDC Profile Identifier "SRPE: SDTS RASTER PROFILE and EXTENSIONS"	
			Available from GIS Data Depot beginning 10/2001
			Corrects positionally inaccurate data 
			Incorporates decimal unit elevation value DEMs
			Accommodates TIFF and BIIF Extensions			
			Corrects Profile Identifier error

All transfers of SDTS data should be done in binary or image mode.
