README for RevPG ================ RevPG (Revision and Product Generation) was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to support the revision of digital line graph (DLG) data with ARC/INFO. Under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), Inc., it has been ported to several Unix environments. At the USGS, DLG revision is performed using a digital orthophoto quad (DOQ) which is a high-altitude aerial photograph that has been scanned and geographically corrected. RevPG also provides display symbology and other support for the production of printed maps from DLG's corresponding to standard USGS topographic quadrangle specifications. RevPG is a collection of ARC/INFO Arc Macro Language (AML) programs, C routines, shell scripts, and interface menus. See or download the ASCII file "install.txt" for a description of the files available in this directory for ftp tranfer to your platform and how to install RevPG. When using ftp to retrieve the RevPG software, documentation, and sample data, BINARY mode must be used. Concerning future releases of RevPG: ==================================== Because the RevPG system is being provided free of charge via the Internet, there is no formal mechanism for notification of new releases of the software. Users are encouraged to recheck the USGS National Mapping Program homepage: or this ftp directory: periodically. New releases will be placed here as they become available Although no support to external users is pledged, comments and suggestions may be sent to: U. S.
